Another reason why it’s called the “Forever Stamp”
Alternate title to today’s post: Yet another eason why it’s never worth it to leave a three-year-old unsupervised for even a nano-second.
That’s right. Apparently, eyes were averted, attention was focused elsewhere (use of passive voice directed towards supervising adult(s) present in the house at the time of the incident), and, quick like a bunny, the three-year-old discerned that the page of Liberty Bells were actually STICKERS! and, despite there being a whole deskful of paper right there at his chubby little fingertips, he thought it would be FUN to affix them to, oh, I dunno, THE ANTIQUE SLANT-TOP DESK. And they are NOT coming off. They’ll be on there forever.
The Forever Stamp. Now! With permanent adhesive!
I suppose I should be grateful that he stuck them to the inside of the slant-top, which can be folded up to hide the Liberty Bells. Of course, I never fold it because there are always stacks of stuff on it. And worst of all?
Now I have to remember to buy more stamps.

Have you tried furniture oil? I don’t have any experience (YET) with removing stickers, but I know that the oil shouldn’t harm the surface. Then again, I’m probably wrong and I just ruined your antique desk. Good luck.

priceless.
remember years from now you’ll be laughing about this. :-)
Oil…furniture oil…canola oil…tung oil…whatever won’t ruin the finish but oil…Sigh.
We use stickers as a reward for Rosie. So we find them EVERYWHERE: furniture, walls — and once on my behind as I was walking into a meeting at work. (Yeah, that was amusing.)
Goo Gone (I think that’s its name, we call it GooBeGone) works REALLY well for that kind of stuff, and I think it won’t harm your wood.
Awww, that’s OK, it only cost three million dollars.
Oh, the humanity!!! I am still scraping stickers off my now-9-yo’s walls that she proudly put on there when she was TWO.
They don’t come off.
Foolery, Nancy, Other Meg and my mom - thanks for the suggestions for trying to remove the Forever Stamps. If someone had suggested taking time to actually do it, that would be good.
Nancy and CBW - yeah, I know, we have stickers everywhere too. In fact, it’s probably amazing that stamps have not been mistook for stickers since we started the parenting gig 12 years ago.
Bossy - definitely not a $3M loss. This was my grandfather’s desk, so there’s way more sentimental value than actual value. But. STILL.
Stamps are cheaper than stickers.
BTW, sorry I yelled in your ear multiple times last night. It was the cold medicine talking…although, I didn’t take any.
Ugh. I have the same sort of evidence on my bedroom dresser, and one kitchen cabinet. I feel your pain.
