American Nurse in Afghanistan

Meet Lori, your High Plains Practitioner

Hey everyone, send some blog love to my friend Lori!  Readers, you may recall that Lori won the Mrs. See’s gift card I gave away in April, right before she was deployed for military training. You see, Lori is an Air Force Family Nurse Practitioner whose assignment will take her to Afghanistan as part of a Provincial Reconstruction Team.

Lori has started a blog to chronicle her adventures and struggles as she and her team strive to rebuild this war-torn nation.

In her words:

I have been asked by the international nursing honor society (Sigma Theta Tau) to document my experience on a blog so “High Plains Practitioner” has been developed.  The name is a spin off of our team name (High Plains Drifters).  [The blog] is still in its infancy with more site design to follow but is up and running.

Lori’s callup means her husband, Nate, and two school-age kids are back home trying to keep life going while Mom’s away.  To hear Lori tell it, the adjustment is going pretty well, but I still can’t imagine being pulled away from my family for work for a year. A YEAR! 365 days!  Think about that.

As we approach Memorial Day, we owe Lori and all our soldiers a debt of gratitude for their willingness to serve our country in this way.  Please, pop on over to Lori’s Blog and say thanks to her and the rest of the High Plains Drifters! Then bookmark her blog and check back often.

  5. Hi Lori,
we just got your website from Lee today. Have been asking for awhile because we were hoping to keep in touch and let you know we are thinking about you a lot and to let you know you and your group are much in my prayers. Reading 3 Cups Of Tea and learning what Greg Mortenson has done in Afghanistan (which I just learned to spell) gave me a small idea of what that country was like. Do hope to follow your adventures and hear about your life.
    Very fondly,
    Jane Wilkerson (Jeff’s mom)
